Rodeo Fun

Hello loves! This weekend was so fun, I hadn't had this much fun in a while. I mean Rodeo fun! So about a week and a half ago my husband came home and informed me that there was to be a rodeo in Woodland CA and that he REALLY wanted to go. He asked me to guess who would be performing and I answered Ezequiel Peña? He looked at me in shock and responded, how did you know? I really did not know I just guessed. Ezequiel Peña is a Mexican singer who appears a lot at rodeos and I remember as a child my parents took me to a rodeo to see this same person but it started raining so they sent everybody home and he didn't perform. Now, its not really my thing but I could see the excitement in my husbands eyes and agreed. He was really excited to see another famous singer who was also making an appearance by the name EL Coyote.

We ended up inviting a few friends and family members to the event. We had so much fun. We ate nachos with jalapenos, chicharones, fruit, ice-cream, and had lots of beer! We got to see men ride bulls and that was thrilling. Unfortunately there was an accident and one of the men got trampled on by a HUGE bull. They had to take him away to get medical attention. The poor guy was bleeding by the ribcage area, it was so sad. They continued with music and dancing horses to get the crowd going again. Soon we all forgot about the poor guy and continued the good times. (I do hope he is well) A couple different bands played music but we are really waiting for Ezequiel and El Colyote. Ezequiel Peña Jr came out first and sang three songs, after that came his father who we were waiting for. He sang a  few well know songs including one of my favorites "Que Chulos Ojos" translation is "What beautiful Eyes". He performed with six different horses. All of them are highly trained and beautiful. They dance to the music and look so elegant. The color of their hair is so bright and shiny. He sang a lot of songs and he was so great with his audience. He actually came to the sides to shake peoples hands and take pictures! My friend go to take a picture with him! I was up on the bleachers at the time and unfortunately did not get to take a picture with him. I did however get to see him pretty close and got video footage of his performance.

At the end of his performance El Coyote was up. At this point the whole audience was down on the dirt and ready to dance! At first I didn't want to go down there because I didn't want to get my boots dirty... haha. My friend all of a sudden jumped the fence and down on to the dirt! She told us to go down there but I was hesitant. I looked over at my other friend and asked her if we should and she smiled like she wanted to but then again I didn't want to make the jump and mess up my ankle or something (I always think worst case scenario). Then our cousin told us he would help us down. SO we were like F it! Lets go! So the Dancing began. About ten to fifteen minutes later or guys came down to join us (I bet they spotted all the other guys asking us to dance, haha) so we pretty much danced the night away to El Coyote. We were covered in dirt and we had no care in the world! I even wrote "Wash Me" on my Sunglasses onto of my head, it was crazy. Once the night came was coming to an end we all decided that we needed some more food, it was only about 10:30ish so we headed out to an In n Out burger joint. Let me tell you those Burgers where bomb! We hung out there and talked some more about the days events. After that we all went our separate ways home and that was our Sunday!

I hope I didn't bore you, haha. I just wanted to share what I did over the weekend because I had such a good time. So if your still here at the end of this post here is a polished image of what my makeup looked like this weekend all products used will be listed below the image.

My Hair Style

My hair style has changed so much through out the years. As a kid my mom chose to keep my hair long and she loved it so much that I ended up having long hair pretty much my whole childhood and teen life. I finally got to do what EVER I wanted with it when I turned eighteen. First thing on my list of things to do when I hit my "Adult" age was CHOP off my hair! Yes I was that desperate. That, and start wearing black eyeliner and mascara. She was so upset... oh well, I put up with the long hair for A LONG time. Not only that but I was required to wear my hair in a braid (while in high school) every other day! I was so embarrassed. I felt like a little girl whose mom did her hair and chose her clothes. Yes she had a say in my clothing as well, but that was not as bad. I was allowed to wear tank tops, Yay! Anyway you might be thinking why I was embarrassed, well this was the time where all the other young girls got to experiment with their hair and makeup. They had shoulder length hair, layers, and beautiful highlights. Me; long squared cut hair and in a braid every other day no black eyeliner and No Black mascara! So can you blame me for being excited about turning the age of 18? I have to say though I did sneak in the black mascara here and there. When I started dating my husband at the age of seventeen I feel like my mom backed off a little on the black mascara and eyeliner because I wore it on the weekend when I was going out on dates him.

I ended up having a friend cut and highlight my hair and it looked so cute! I cut my hair just up to my shoulders and got a few highlights. After that I continued changing up my hair looks. At one point I had a brown color in my hair with Blond Red and Black highlights and low lights! Yes I had four colors in my hair and it was the best combo ever. That was actually my husbands favorite hair look, but it was the worst on my pocket. Ive cut my hair as short as a pixie cut which was extremely bold of me! It makes me smile BIG thinking of it. I remember our Market Executive visited our store and did a double take when he saw me, he made a comment about the drastic change. It was a nice comment but you know when someone is B.S'ing you. LOL I was fine with it I think that everyone (including my self) was shocked about the pixie cut! My husband was like NEVER AGAIN! Please! Oh, Memories. Since that I have dyed my hair black, dark brown and blond. Its a real costly thing and little by little I dyed it less and less. The hard part was growing out my hair again. I went years trying to grow back my hair but overtime it grew i would just cut it right off again because of split ends. Yes you read that right, I wanted to grow back my hair and I did. All that fuss about chopping it off and then we came back to this conclusion my hair looks great long. I don't regret cutting my hair because it was something i really wanted to do. Would I do it again? Yes.  Would I cut it tomorrow? No. I feel like I will go some time with long hair and down the line I know I will cut it again.

At the moment my hair style is nothing glamorous. I keep it pretty simple. I'm at a state where I want no more upkeep than a simple shampoo and weekly deep conditioner. Currently it's a Dark brown with violet undertones. However its a bit washed out but it still looks a nice color. When I do my hair in the morning I usually just blow-dry and use a round brush. I keep my hair down and semi-straight on a daily biases for work. I rarely use a curling iron or straightener the same day I blow dry, unless I have an event to go to. I part my hair to the side and wear long side bangs with a bobby pin pulling them off my face. I do have some long layers in front just so when I curl my hair they frame my face nicely. When I go to a party and time permits I like to curl my hair or use my wave heating tool. I think that curls and waves make you look more glam. Really that's all there is to it at the moment.

So I guess you got read a little more about me and my earlier years. I hope it was as entertaining for you as it was for me to reminisce about the past and write about it all up until now. So I wish you all had better teen hair/makeup experiences. Remember find that Sparkle and let it shine!

Nail Confessions

I have a love hate relationship with my nails. I have to confess, I am a nail bitter. I know I know gross right? I just can't help my self sometimes. I try hard and I am successful for periods of time but then something happens that gets my nerves all rattled up and there they go! I have bitten my nails ever since I can remember. I never had beautiful looking nails as a kid or teen and it sucked because I was embarrassed. I remember my parents rubbing hot peppers on my nails to help me stop, but hey I'm Mexican so needless to say they were just seasoning my fingers for me LOL! OK sorry probably not a good image right? Anyway (when I was in seventh grade) without my parents permission on a vacation to see my aunt and cousins in Chicago, Illinois I visited a Nail Shop with my Cousin Nora and we got our nails done together. I used up a big portion of my vacation spending allowance and I didn't care because I was so ashamed of my ugly nails. I was so excited afterwards and they looked so amazing! I got a beautiful pink, blue and purple floral airbrushed design on them and they made my hands look longer and more girly. When I got back home to California my mom was so mad I thought she was going to take me to get them removed! She didn't but she said that I wouldn't be allowed to get them done again. To the point, for two-three weeks I was unable to bite my nails and got in the habit of not biting due to the acrylics. So after the acrylics came off my own nails were semi better looking because the nail beds had a full nail on them. That was a major improvement. Of course after time passed my habits came back and there I was with crappy looking nails again. So when I got to high school my mom allowed me to get my nails done here and there but only for special events. Once I started working I was able to finance my own little pleasure so my nails got done more often. As many of you know getting your nails done can be expensive so I stopped getting my nails done about six years ago.

I have worked really hard on my will power to stop the nail biting and have been successful without the help of acrylics. I have grown beautiful looking nails and I am extremely proud of my self; because I was able to grow my own nails I also got to grow my Nail Polish collection. I like to play around with my nail polish and love to change up the color week to week. I will have to share with you my collection at a later date. Unfortunately at this time my nails look like crap. When I get nervous I start biting my nails. My husband and I like the show on TV called The Walking Dead. I loved that show but found that it was causing me anxiety and my stomach became quite upset. Then there went my nails. The nerves while watching that show are too much for me. So I stopped watching it, but I find my eyes wandering towards the TV when my husband is watching it and then without thinking I my hands are in my mouth.

What I do to bring my nails back to their beautiful appearance is I pamper my hands with an at home Manicure and I make it a point of using hand cream at work every time after I wash my hands every time. At night I apply cuticle oil to my nails and cuticles and then I apply a generous amount of Vaseline and wear aloe infused fuzzy gloves. This helps keep the moisture and Vaseline on my hands and not all over my sheets and most important it keeps it off my face (Don't want pimples). Wearing the gloves also helps so I can't get to my nails, therefore I can't bite. Putting on my gloves every evening helps me get in the habit of not biting my nails. Another thing I do to help my self out is take a Biotin Supplement everyday. Biotin is a dietary supplement that helps with hair and nail growth and its good for your skin. I purchased my Biotin Supplement bottle at Walmart, it comes with 150 soft gels. The directions say that adults should take 1-5 daily with a meal however I only take one or two a day.

So as you know now from this post I am working on my nail recovery. I will post a picture of my nails at their current state. Please be nice, I just shared with you one of the things that embarrassed me as a kid. Soon my nails will be looking amazing again and will show you. I do have pictures of my nails on my Instagram @ahlixcervantes if you want to see. Until next time remember to Always Sparkle.

Favorite Lipstick

Isn't it funny how we all gravitate back to what we truly love. We can have tons of things, accessories clothes, shoes and makeup, still we always go back to our one true favorite. Today I want to share with you my Favorite Lipstick and Im also going to throw in a little tag I found via twitter.

As much as I love my bright and outgoing lipsticks I have one I always have readily available to me and that is my L'oreal Color Riche Lipstick in  Fairest Nude 800. Its actually the only lipstick I keep a backup for. This color to me, is the color you call would "My Lips But Better" because it makes my lips look just perfectly nude without trying so hard. This color is neither too pale nor too pink, its really just perfect. This is a lipstick you keep in your handbag as an emergency lipstick because you can apply it without a mirror and not worry about the application being so perfect because its not a scandalous color. This lipstick goes with every makeup look I put together and what I love the most is that it looks great with my skin tone. The formula is like a mix of a creme and sheen. It applies to the lips like a sheen lipstick (slippery) but looks like a creme on the lips. The staying power on is good for a drugstore lipstick, keep in mind that it is a nude color so it does seem to fade faster then a bright one would. However it does not bother me at all. The packaging of the product is a nice gold squared tube with a gold center closure with the L'oreal Brand name on it. The one thing about the packaging I don't love is that the top cap of the tube. It has a slant to it so when I store it in my acrylic lipstick holder upside down (because I like the names of my lipsticks to show) it tilts to the side. I know its not really a big deal because this lipstick really lives in my hand bag most of the time but it still bugs me. Something that could be a turn off to some is the scent of the lipstick. It smells old school to me and is quite overwhelming. The scent brings back memories of lipsticks my mother owned when I was a kid, at first I didn't like it but because I love the color I sucked it up and now it really doesn't bother me. I encourage you to try out this lipstick, it retails for only $7.99 Let me know if you did and if you liked in a comment, or even if you already own it!

I was looking over Twitter a while back and I found a fun tag on Beauty Book Blog called The Lip Stick Tag. I thought it was pretty cool and wanted to give it a whirl, so let's get to it.

-How many lipsticks do you own? I currently own 35 lipsticks however that is NOT the full extent of my lippie collection... (lip balms, glosses, crayons).

-What was your first ever lipstick? My first ever lipstick was given to me by one of my dads older lady clients. It was a full size lipstick form Lancome in the shade of Bright Red. Im sure she got it as a gift with purchase with one of her recent skincare purchases. It was a nice color, however my mom was offended and took it away from me because she said that a 13 year old had not business owning a Bright Red Lipstick. Haha she probably just liked it for her self!

-What is your most worn lipstick? Well I just went on about that above! L'oreal Color Riche Lipsitck in Fairest Nude 800

-What is your favorite brand for lipstick? My favorite brand for lipstick is Maybelline. I Like the formula of these lipsticks, it is creamy and pigmented. Also they have such a great color selection you are sure to find a shade for you'll love. There is a scent to this lipstick but it is not as strong as the L'oreal lipstick which I appreciate.

-What is your favorite finish? My favorite finish has to be creme-sheen. I don't fully enjoy the sheer lipsticks because I don't want to feel like I have to apply half the tube to get some color you know (bit of exaggeration on the half a tube bit).  This is true for Lipsticks, lip balms I don't mind the whole having to build up the color. I do like Matte lipsticks but I prefer a more moisturizing formula especially in the winter months

-What was the last lip product you bought? Remember how I said that Maybelline has such a great color selection? Well, I just bought myself three lipsticks from their new line Color Sensational The Buffs lip color.  They are such pretty Nude colors Bare All 910, Nude Lust 920 and one Dark color Espresso Exposed. I also picked up two of their Maybelline Elixirs Nude illusion 060 and Petal Blush 100. These are AMAZING! They make your lips feel so plum and plush. The formula is smooth and almost feels like butter but not like a slippery butter, more like thicker but now sticky. They are perf!

-How many lip product do you currently have in your had bag? (including lip balms and glosses) In my hand bag I currently have three lip products. Two lipsticks and one lipgloss.

-What lipstick do you currently use to rock a red lip? I have to confess... I rarely rock a red lip. However when I do I use a highly pigmented lip balm from Cailyn called Big Apple retails for $19.00 .  For a balm it is REALY pigmented and  feels more like a lipstick than a lip balm.

Also its more on the matte side so I usually apply a gloss on top to give it some shine. This balm lasts on your lips a LONG time! I do like to use Hot Mess Lip gloss by be a Bombshell Cosmetics Retails for $14.00 . It is a bright red gloss that can be worn on its own and look stunning. It does not make your lips look over done when worn on its own but it is pigmented enough to give your lips an amazing rosy color.

When I do line my lips with a pencil I use NYX Lip Liner Pencil in 817 Hot Red retails for $3.50, this is more of a matte finish pencil which goes perfectly with this Cailyn Balm.

-How do you store you lipsticks? I recently ordered some clear acrylic lipstick holders. They look so fancy I really love them. For lipsticks with a flat top i store those upside down so I can see the bottom of the tube with the lipstick name.

Unfortunately some of the tubes like my Lime Crime and MAC ones have a round top so they slip to the side =( So I store them right side up. All my lip glosses I keep in a basket in my Alex Drawer from Ikea out of sight

-What lip products are you currently lusting after? Oh my gosh! I would love to get my hands on so many lip products where should I start!? Ok well first would be Dior Crème de Rose Smoothing Plumping lip balm, this lip balm is supposed to be moisturizing with some SPF and its suppose to have a rose scent and I love the scent of roses. Another product I would love to try out is the Dose of Colors Lip Glosses. They Look Crazy pigmented and have amazing colors. Lastly I am really intrigued with Sephora and Pantone Universe Radiant Paint Gloss Trio. If I pick up anything soon I think it might be this one.

So there it is the Lip stick tag, I so hope you made it this far into the Blog Post haha. Please Please comment below and let me know how you liked the post and also follow my blog for more. Thank you so much and till the next post.
